A still from the original video showing the Reichstag in Berlin, and the new video with Belfast City Hall.

Heather Humphreys removes campaign video mistaking Belfast for Berlin

A shot of the Reichstag in Berlin appeared to have been included in the video instead of Belfast City Hall.

HEATHER HUMPHREYS HAS taken down a campaign video after a shot of the Reichstag in Berlin appeared to have been included instead of Belfast City Hall.

The video focuses on the Fine Gael presidential candidate’s links to the North and showcases her visit to St Dominic’s Grammar School on the Falls Road on Monday.

It begins with photographs and a voiceover of Humphreys saying she grew up on the border and that she knows “what it means to live with different traditions – Catholic or Protestant, unionist or nationalist”.

The video then cuts to footage of the German parliament as Humphreys says: “Here in Belfast, I’m reminded that our shared future must be built on respect, on listening, and on understanding each-other.”

The video was taken down and was shared again on social media this morning with footage of Belfast City Hall now in place of the Reichstag.

Speaking to reporters this morning during a visit to Dublin Fire Brigade’s headquarters, Humphreys acknowledged the blunder.

“That was a mistake, and thank you to whoever brought it to our attention,” she said.

“It has been taken down. It has been rectified. It was an error.”

She said she had a “great day” in Belfast and had met the pupils and nuns at St Dominic’s, which is the secondary school former president Mary McAleese attended.
