Gardaí appeal to 'light green Volkwagen Passat taxi' over fatal lorry collision in Dublin

A 15-year-old girl was killed after being struck by the lorry at Heuston Station last week.

GARDAÍ THIS EVENING renewed their appeal for information surrounding a recent incident in which a teenager was fatally injured by a lorry in Dublin city.

The 15-year-old girl was struck by an articulated lorry at Heuston Station on Thursday, 17 July at around 4.20pm. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí at Kilmainham are appealing to witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them.

They are particularly appealing to the occupants of a light green Volkwagen Passat taxi, 2000-2005 model, which exited Heuston Station and was travelling behind the lorry when the incident occurred, to contact them at Kilmainham Garda Station (01 6669700), the Garda Confidential line (1800 666111) or any garda station.

If he did actually see anything at all you would have to wonder why he didn’t stop or contact the police in the last week?

This taxi there looking for can be found at the drop of a hat. Taxis are in a data base they just have to talk to the regulator to find any green passats

There’s an app that all the public can use to make sure your getting into a legal Taxi.. Also, is there no CCTV cameras in Heuston Station so the Taxis roof sign number can be read? Maybe they have the number but came up as “not registered” as a good majority of Taxis do on the app.. The Gardai did announce only a few weeks ago that up to 25% of Taxis stayed off the road when a clamp down on illegal taxis was taking place… So are the public to assume that 25% of the Taxis on Irish roads are illegal and if something goes wrong the customer has absolutely no comeback because the authorities haven’t a clue who is driving them?

They appear to be interested in the passenger(s) as well as the driver – it refers to occupants above. So while they may easily find the taxi through registration, if the passenger(s) hailed by hand and paid in cash, they may be untraceable, other than by public appeal?

I can imagine Grainne, laying in bed after downing a bottle of vino, reading the journal, typing out a nice comment, can barely see the text on the phone, it appears in double.

Don’t worry Grainne, we’ve all been there!

Karen very few of us professional drivers stop even for fatal accidents unless we are involved or can assist. If there is already people at the scene & the scene is secured we just drive on. Most people dont understand the concept but its to prevent another accident & create chaos like rubber neckers everywhere. My own policy is if help is already at hand I can only be a hindrance. It may be cold but its the safest option.

What a pity nobody said anything about the poor young girl who has died. Unbelievable reading back rediculous comments.
A life has been lost tragically and condolence to those who were family, friends and associates.
The driver of the truck now has his own issues to deal with.

These trucks are too big for streets in busy areas. The trucks should be using camera technology for looking down the sides instead of mirrors at this stage, plus they really should have a special lower max speed when on busy streets. It seems many of the urban fatalities have some truck involved.
The poor family of the girl, heartbreaking for them.

Commentariat having fun as usual. But a child is dead. Is that a joke? My sympathy to her family. I visit the Journal once in a while to see how immeasurably worse the comments have been since the last time.

Expect lots of LOLS for this comment but will not see them. It will be a while before I visit this cesspit again.
