Waterford abattoir begins redundancy consultation with more than 200 employees
The company cited reduced livestock supply and rising costs.
FOOD PROCESSING COMPANY ABP has announced it has begun a consultation with employees at its abattoir in Waterford about redundancies.
ABP said that approximately 230 employees are being consulted regarding “potential redundancies” at its cutting and deboning operation in its Waterford facility.
The company said the abattoir is not affected, and the facility will continue to receive cattle.
In a statement confirming the consultation, the company cited reduced livestock supply and increasing costs in Ireland as reasons for the redundancies.
A spokesperson for ABP said: “We understand the impact this announcement may have on our colleagues and their families. We are committed to engaging constructively with our employees during this period of consultation.”
