Price Comparison: What can I buy for under €600,000 in Cork?

From a period home in Crosshaven to a detached modern home in Glanmire.

THIS WEEK WE’RE scouring the real capital – and its county – to find out what less than €600,000 will get us in the current climate.

We know it’s easy to get carried away when it comes to house hunting but budgeting is important. If you’re looking to buy in Cork, let us do some of the work for you with these top picks.

Four-bed, detached, Glanmire – €580,000

18 Chestnut Meadows is a large four-bedder with a floor area of 236 m².  An added sunroom and an attic conversion has upped the space considerably and created a light-filled home. The ground floor is also home to two reception rooms, a kitchen/dining room, a utility room, a cloakroom and guest toilet. Upstairs, there are four large double bedrooms along with a family bathroom. The main bedroom has its own bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe.

Perfect for a family with primary and secondary schools just a walk away, the Crestfield Shopping Centre is a five minute drive away and a bus runs from the estate to Cork city every twenty minutes. It’s also just a short drive to the M8 Cork/Dublin road.

Three-bed, detached, Glanmire – €395,000

A charming home with three bedrooms, Bluebell Cottage offers a slice of countryside living while being close to Cork city. Located in Glanmire, the house is a handy walk from a number of schools and short drive from a shopping centre. There is also a bus that runs past this house, which goes straight to the city regularly.

A home that offers lots of privacy, it stands behind a gate and offers plenty of off-street parking. The house was renovated recently, so the next owner won’t have to worry about updating windows, the kitchen or the bathroom for that matter. The ground floor also comprises a hallway that links to the spacious sitting room. Two of the bedrooms and a family bathroom complete the ground floor while the third, which has its own bathroom, is upstairs.

There’s also a separate living room, a utility and a home office at this level. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms have their own bathrooms while the others share the family bathroom. Four-bed, terrace, Crosshaven – €425,000

2 Westbourne Terrace is a period house that’s in Crosshaven village and looks out onto the Royal Yacht Club, marina, Cork harbour and Currabinny. Built in the 1890s, this is one of three connected homes on an elevated site that makes the most of the sea views. Spread over 150 m² and three floors, the rooms comprise a reception room that links to the dining room and then the kitchen. From here, are doors that step out onto the patio.

Upstairs are where the four bedrooms live with a converted attic for more space that could be a handy home office. There are also three bathrooms dotted throughout the house. The house is close to everything a family would need. This is a wonderful renovation project for anyone who wants to live in a truly picturesque part of Cork.
