FROM CITY CENTRE apartments to larger country bungalows, the kind of home your budget will get you can vary hugely depending on where you’re buying.
Each week, we match a budget to a location. Where the two meet, we handpick a representative selection of homes to give you a sense of how far your money will go in that area.
This week, we have a budget of €350,000, which should put us in the running for a spacious family home in our chosen location of Galway. From Knocknacarra to Tuam, here’s what we’ve found…
Sitting on the outskirts of Tuam is 156 Clochran, a stand-out home with landscaped gardens to the front and rear. Refurbished by the current owners in 2016 and 2017, this home is ready and waiting for its new residents to move in.
Featuring a high-gloss ivory kitchen with energy-efficient NEFF appliances and an island unit, plus a dining area with doors leading onto the rear garden, this is a home that’s calling out to be used for dinner parties and summer BBQs. Upstairs, the master bedroom has been extended to include a large space – currently used as a walk-in wardrobe, but easily repurposed as a fourth bedroom.
In the bustling Galway suburb of Knocknacarra, close to the city, is 3 Rathlao. This 1,320 sq ft home sits in a quiet cul de sac of just ten properties, making for a safe, traffic-free zone for kids to play.
Inside, an entrance hall leads you through to the sitting room and an open plan kitchen-diner with sliding doors to the garden – a real suntrap. There’s also a utility room and guest bathroom on this level. Upstairs are all four bedrooms upstairs, with a family bathroom and an en-suite master bathroom too.
Constructed in 2002, 19 Cnocan Rua is in immaculate condition inside, with a bright entrance hallway leading to a spacious living area – south west facing with a bay window to make the most of natural light. The kitchen-dining area spreads the full rear width of the home, making it the ideal family home.
Upstairs are the family bathroom and all three bedrooms. Each bedroom has built-in storage, and you’ll find an en-suite bathroom in the master bedroom. 19 Cnocan Rua is close to all of Moycullen’s amenities – shops, restaurants, local schools and more – and you’ll be just a ten-minute drive from NUIG and UCHG.
With its striking stone frontage, 130 Cairéal Mor is a home that’ll charm buyers before they even step inside. Castlegar is just a 15-20 minute drive from Galway city, making it a location that mixes tranquility and convenience.
The 137 sq m of space include a living room with open fireplace, a kitchen-diner and an exceptionally large rear garden. Upstairs are four bedrooms, all with built-in wardrobes, plus an en-suite master bathroom.
