UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN living under a rock for the last year, you will have come across Take Me To Church by Wicklow singer/songwriter Hozier.

The song launched Hozier into the stratosphere, seeing him perform at the Grammys (where he was nominated) and become pals with Taylor Swift.

Today, the song has been nominated for the most prestigious songwriting award on this side of the Atlantic, the Ivor Novello award.

The song, written by Hozier, will battle it out with Ben Howard and Bear’s Den for the award of Best Song Musically and Lyrically.

The 60th anniversary of the awards will be presented in London on Thursday 21 May, which is handy for the singer, his UK tour starts in Newcastle the following night.

The Wicklow man is also up for five Billboard Music Awards, which will be handed out in Las Vegas on 17 May.

Not bad going for a guy whose album hasn’t even been out a year yet.
