More infant formula recalled by Food Safety Authority due to risk of nausea and vomiting

Danone is recalling the batch of its Aptamil 1 From Birth First infant milk.

LAST UPDATE | 2 hrs ago

MORE BATCHES OF infant formula have been recalled by the food safety regulator over concerns that they contain a toxin that can cause nausea and vomiting.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued the recall this afternoon for batches of Aptamil infant formula due to the potential presence of cereulide.

Danone is recalling the batch of its Aptamil 1 From Birth First infant milk due to the presence of cereulide, which the FSAI said was indirectly distributed to Ireland from the UK via the Boots.ie website.

The affected batches carry an expiry date of 31 October of this year.

Danone is advising customers to contact its Aptamil careline team on 1800 22 1234 if they have any queries regarding today’s recall.

The cereulide toxin, which may be in the products, is caused by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. The toxin may be pre-formed in a food and is extremely heat-resistant.

Consumption of foods containing cereulide toxin can lead to nausea and severe vomiting. Symptoms can appear within five hours, the FSAI says. The duration of illness is usually 6 to 24 hours.

If no symptoms are displayed, no further action needs to be taken.

The FSAI has said there have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the consumption of the recalled products.

Today’s recall followed a significant widening of the infant formula recall earlier this month.
