Investigation launched after shots fired on Pentagon

Bullet fragments discovered in the windows as authorities search for shooter.

AN INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY in the US after shots were fired on the Pentagon early this morning.

Authorities say the shots were fired at around 5am, and caused minor damage to the building. They have not located the shooter.

No one was injured in the incident, which was reported by a civilian in the area according to the Washington Post.

Police temporarily put some entrances to the building on lockdown after the shots were reported. A Pentagon spokesperson says they do not know what kind of weapon was used, or how many shots were fired.

NPR reports that security officials have described the shooting as “a random event”.

Bullet fragments were found embedded in two windows at the Pentagon during a search of the premises. The bullets had not penetrated the windows, but did shatter the glass. Authorities said the offices involved were unoccupied at the time as they are being renovated.
