Met Éireann's 'Sight For Sore Eyes' Pic of the Day

That’s a rainfall radar. Can you find any rain?

WELL, THAT’S ONE WAY to kick off a weekend.

The country is basking in some welcome sunshine this morning as the weekend’s weather gets off to a great start.

The image here shows the Met Éireann image of Irish rainfall at 9am this morning. Conspicuous in its absence is any actual rainfall.

In fact, only one weather station – the automatic one at Malin Head – has reported any rainfall at all this morning, with only a ‘trace’ listed. All other stations reported 0.0mm rain in the hour between 8am and 9am.

Temperatures across the country, meanwhile, are fairly uniform at 16°C with only a few stations in the west and midlands dropping a degree or two below this.

Despite the calm weather, a small craft warning remains in place, with Met Éireann warning of force 6 winds from the south later this afternoon and this evening from Valentia to Loop Head to Erris Head.

Make the best of it while you can – the forecast for later in the weekend is for “changeable and unsettled weather”.

What are you up to this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
