POLICE IN DERRY are investigating a young boy’s discovery of a Kinder Surprise egg which contained a bag of what’s believe to be crystal methamphetamine, otherwise known as crystal meth.

The discovery was made by a six-year-old boy last Sunday in the Drumachose area of Limavady.

It’s understood the boy passed the bag to his father who relayed it to local DUP councillor Alan Robinson who then passed the bag onto the PSNI without realising what the powder was at that time.

The small quantity of the highly addictive drug will be destroyed by police.

“This incident is of the uppermost concern for all of us,” said Inspector Colin Shaw of the PSNI.

Tackling the use and supply of illegal drugs is a priority for us and the possibility that something so potentially dangerous has been discarded where children could find it is deeply concerning.
I don’t want members of the local community to find drugs on their street, however this incident just reminds us that criminals have no regard whatsoever for the safety of local residents, and I am thankful that this child had the sense to speak to an adult about what he discovered.
