Kneecap cancel all sold-out US tour dates due to London court hearing

The group said that they will “embark on an even bigger tour” once they “win” in London.

BELFAST RAP GROUP Kneecap have cancelled 15 sold-out US tour dates scheduled for October, citing the timing of an upcoming court hearing for band member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh in London.

Ó hAnnaidh, 27, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was charged in England in May, accused of displaying a flag of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah during a London concert last November.

He denies the offence, and the band insist its members do not support Hamas or Hezbollah.

The case has been adjourned until 26 September, with Ó hAnnaidh released on unconditional bail until then.

Kneecap’s first US tour date had been set for 1 October, with 15 shows planned across 14 American cities.

“This is news we are sad to deliver,” the trio said in a statement on social media.

“But once we win our court case, which we will, we promise to embark on an even bigger tour to all you great heads,” they added.

The Canadian leg of their tour, with shows in Vancouver and Toronto, will go ahead as planned in October.

Separately, Kneecap offered fans some good news, promising to share something “very special” with their US audience next week so those who had planned to attend the October shows can still connect with the band.

“It’s top secret for now but all will be revealed next week – stay tuned,” they wrote.

The trio ended their Instagram post with the message: “And remember… ‘The revolution will be no re-run, brothers. The revolution will be live.’ FREE PALESTINE!”

Meanwhile, the trio are scheduled to perform 17 dates across Ireland and the UK, including two sold-out gigs at Dublin’s 3Arena in December.
