'Black Tuesday? No, but it's not a good poll': Minister on Labour's 6 per cent

LABOUR JUNIOR MINISTER Alex White has admitted the party’s rating in an Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI opinion poll today is not good.

“It’s not a good poll, there’s no doubt about that. We have to reflect as we always do on those kind of developments,” he said, stressing that the government has “an awful lot of work to do” in the coming weeks.

He said that Labour’s more positive showing in other polls recently also needed to be considered and would not be drawn on whether Tánaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Eamon Gilmore should be given a domestic Cabinet portfolio in any reshuffle.

“I don’t think there’s a question mark over the leadership,” he added.

White had been asked whether he agreed with the assessment by an advisor to Social Protection Minister Joan Burton that it is a ‘Black Tuesday’ after the poll result:
