Seven arrested over Leicester fire that killed family of Dublin-based doctor

The men aged between 16 and 24 are being held as part of the inquiries into the murder of the family of Dublin-based neurosugeon Muhammad Taufiq Al Sattar.

POLICE IN ENGLAND have arrested seven men in connection with the fire which killed the wife and three children of Dublin-based neurosurgeon Muhammad Taufiq Al Sattar.

Shehnila Taufiq died along with her 19-year-old daughter and sons, aged 17 and 15, named Zainab, Jamal and Bilal in a fire at their home in the Wood Hill area of the city on 13 September.

Leicestershire Police today arrested seven men aged between 16 and 24 as part of their inquiries into the fire and have previously charged an 18-year-old man with four counts of murder.

Those arrested remain in police custody according to the special investigators from the East Midlands police force.

Detective superintendent Kate Meynell thanked local residents for their patience as several properties were searched:

We appreciate that a number of residents may have been concerned with the police presence this morning. This morning’s activity was part of the ongoing investigation into the four deaths in Wood Hill earlier this month.

Police say the 18-year-old charged with murder will appear at Leicester Crown Court at a later date.
