Luas service between Belgard and Saggart suspended ahead of protest at IPAS centre

A number of anti-immigration groups have been promoting a protest at the Citywest Hotel.

LUAS SERVICE BETWEEN the Belgard and Saggart stops has been suspended following a directive from An Garda Síochána, the tram company said.

The halt to the tram service comes ahead of a rally planned in response to the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in the area.

A 26-year-old man, who cannot be named because of the nature of the case, appeared in court today today in relation to the alleged incident in Saggart.

A number of anti-immigration groups have been promoting a protest set to be held at the Citywest Hotel in Saggart, which is a centre for asylum seekers.

“Please be advised that there are currently no Red Line services operating between Belgard and Saggart, following Garda directive,” Luas said in a post on social media this evening.

“Services will operate between Tallaght/Belgard and Connolly only. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
