Man dies after fire in toilet of Belfast hospital

The PSNI has said the incident is being treated as a sudden death and not suspicious at this time.

A MAN IN his 30s has died after a fire broke out in a toilet of a Belfast Hospital.

Emergency services attended to the incident yesterday evening at around 6.50pm.

A fire was reported in a bathroom in the emergency department of the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Around 20 personnel from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended to the scene to extinguish the blaze and a spokesperson said one man was injured.

In a statement this morning, the PSNI confirmed that the injured man, aged in his 30s, has since died in hospital.

The PSNI added that the incident is being treated as a sudden death and not suspicious at this time.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service had been transporting patients to alternative emergency departments during the incident yesterday evening.
