Man (29) arrested at Dublin Airport over cigarette smuggling

More than 16,000 cigarettes were seized from the man’s luggage after he arrived on a flight from Dubai earlier today.

A 29-YEAR-OLD MAN has been arrested at Dublin Airport after more than 16,000 cigarettes were seized from his luggage.

The man, who is from Malawi, had arrived on a flight from Dubai earlier today.

Officers from Revenue’s Customs service seized the Benson & Hedges cigarettes – with an estimated retail value of €7,758 – during a search at the airport when the cigarettes were found to be concealed in the man’s bags.

The man appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara at the Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon where he was remanded in custody until Wednesday when he will appear before Cloverhill District Court.
