Man arrested with guns and fake badge was posing as an air marshal

He was in court yesterday.

A NEW YORK man who police say posed as an air marshal has appeared in court.

Police have not suggested the man’s motive, and have not commented on whether he had used the badge to carry a gun on a plane.

He was arrested after being pulled over with an assault weapon and body armor in his car has been ordered held on $300,000 bail.

Court records say Mark Vicars represented himself in court on Friday to face weapons charges. He could not be reached for comment Saturday.

Nassau County police stopped the 49-year-old suspect based on a tip Thursday morning in Syosset.

Police say he had a pistol, a knife and the assault weapon in the car, along with the body armor and 500 rounds of ammunition. Investigators say he produced a fake shield and credential while claiming to be an air marshal.

Authorities say they found five more handguns and 8,300 rounds of ammunition at his home.
