A MAN HAS been charged in connection with the investigation into an incident where a woman was shot in Cork on Sunday.

The 29-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning after the incident, which took place at Hollwell Estate in Cork City shortly after 1am.

He remains in garda custody and is due to appear before Cork District Court 1 at 10.30am today.

Ciara Sheehan (21) was shot while visiting her boyfriend’s home in the north of the city. A bullet hit her in the neck after it was fired into the house.

Her injuries are described as serious but she is in a stable condition in Cork University Hospital. Her family have released an image of her in hospital to highlight the impact of gun violence.

Gardaí also arrested a woman (22) and a second man (late 60s) in connection with this investigation. Both were released from garda custody without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
