Man to appear in court in connection with 2008 murder of Shane Geoghegan

The 28-year-old Garryowen rugby player was shot near his home in a case of mistaken identity nearly four years ago.

A MAN IS due to appear in court tomorrow charged with the murder of Shane Geoghegan, who was shot dead near his home in 2008 in a case of mistaken identity.

One man has already been sentenced for his part in the murder of the 28-year-old Garryowen rugby player. Barry Doyle, from Portland Row in Dublin handed a life sentence after he was found guilty of shooting Geoghegan in the head near in the Dooradoyle area on 9 November, 2008.

The jury took six hours to convict Doyle, 26, who the court heard had admitted killing Geoghegan after mistaking him for somebody else.

The DPP directed earlier this week that the case against the second man could go ahead, RTÉ reports.
