Men arrested after firearm and ammunition found in car

The men were arrested after their car was pursued by gardaí.

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested by gardaí after a firearm and ammunition was found in a car.

Gardaí in Wicklow are investigating a shooting incident which occurred on 3 March 2013, at approximately 11.30pm on Bond Street, Wicklow Town.

During the incident, a shot was fired through the front door of the house. No one was injured and the scene has been technically examined.

Today at approximately 12.10am, garda from the traffic department were conducting a speed checkpoint when they attempted to stop a vehicle. This vehicle failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued.

Subsequently, the vehicle was stopped at Stillorgan Road, Dublin 4 and searched and a firearm and ammunition were found.

Assistance was given by gardaí from the Special Detective Unit, Harcourt Sq, leading to the arrest of two males (aged 44 and 26 years).

Both suspects are currently detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939, as amended, at Irishtown and Donnybrook Garda stations.
