VIDEO: Suspected meteor lights up sky over Scotland

‘We saw the ball of light over the trees coming down at some speed and then a massive flash.’

FOOTAGE OF A suspected meteor has been recorded in Scotland.

Police received several phone calls about the incident yesterday evening.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told Sky News callers described seeing a “fireball” and hearing a loud bang. Other people said their houses shook.

“We have checked and been told it was likely to be a meteor shower.”

The Met Office told the BBC the incident was “not weather-related”.

Witness Jenni Morrison told BBC Radio Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland:

“It was pitch black and then all of a sudden it was like a light switch went on. It became daylight – the whole sky lit up … It really didn’t last long at all – literally seconds.

We saw the ball of light over the trees on the left side coming down at some speed and then a massive flash.

“It was scary and amazing at the same time.”

The Ministry of Defence told Sky News it will not discuss whether the incident was connected to any ongoing operations in the area.
