DUBLIN HAS STEPHEN Roche, New York got a union worker, and Cork has secured the Lord of the Dance himself.
Michael Flatley has been unveiled as the Grand Marshal of the St Patrick’s Day parade in Cork this year.
The dancer will lead the parade through the city centre along with Cork’s Lord Mayor on 17 March.
Flatley, who is from Chicago but lives in Cork, said that he was “truly honoured” to be chosen to lead the parade in “a county my family and I now call home”.
“The Parade is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Irish culture and I’m looking forward to meeting musicians, Irish dancers and artistic groups from all over Cork and Ireland,” he said.
I am really proud of Cork, it’s a thriving city with so much to offer residents and tourists alike.
Cork’s Lord Mayor, Catherine Clancy, said the theme for this year’s parade is ‘Legends’ and said that Flatley “certainly fits the bill”.
Take it away, Michael.
