Ming asked Shatter for an aircraft carrier

He said no.

DEPUTY LUKE MING Flanagan asked Minister Shatter if he would consider “purchasing an aircraft carrier to protect Ireland”.

Aircraft carriers cost billions of euro. The US Navy spent $12.9 billion on their USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier last year.

But that didn’t deter the Deputy from asking the Minister to make a statement on the matter.

Shatter responded by saying:

There are no plans to purchase an aircraft carrier for the Naval Service.

He said, “The primary day-to-day tasking of the Naval Service is to provide a fishery protection service.”

So that’s a no then to the aircraft carrier Ming.

Shatter did mention that we are getting two new offshore Patrol Vessels but it’s not exactly what the Deputy was hoping for.

Maybe he can put it on his Christmas wish list.

TheJournal.ie did ask Deputy Flanagan to comment but he has not yet responded.
