THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS are without mobile phone service this afternoon after problems on the Three Ireland network.
Customers report not having mobile network and being unable to make phone calls. Others say that text messages have not been sending for a number of hours.
The Tesco Ireland network uses the Three Ireland infrastructure so has been hit as well.

I can’t remember the specifics, but in order to get money back on your bundle you need to have been without service for a certain number of days at the fault of the operator.
Basically, they have those contracts sewn up. You don’t get compensation for being without your phone signal for a few hours.
Yes, but that service also has to be maintained and there are numerous places where things can go wrong. The contracts tend to allow for however long it should take it to get back up and running again, which is normally a few hours rather tham days.
If you were without for a week then you could claim it back, but the chances of that happening are slim.
Goldberg,
No chance I was with 3 on a business plan x amount per month for unlimited calls in Ireland and a pretty large number of free minutes in UK number of times couldn’t use phone reported each time. Never once any discount etc left them. 3 aren’t alone lost count of how many times Internet A and landline dropped with UPC same lack of response.dropped with UPC
We had a contract through my company where u got an iphone 5s at an affordable price & at €35.00 p.m for 24 mts.. So i signed a contract with o2 and now we got an email saying we will be paying 37.50 p.m with 3mobile.. Nowhere in o2 contract does it state they can change the contract and i didn’t sign a new contract with three so will be calling comreg to see if i can actually get out of my final year contract now as not happy with the poor service
@ helen kennerley , you hit the nail on the head there! the last few months has been just terrible with the three! and customer service is non-existent . no internet and phone since 12 today and just back a few minutes. i dont know about anyone else but i got not txt or any sort of explanation …..will be looking for a new provider!
Good luck with the satisfaction you’ll receive from customer service. Brutal!! Unfortunately tied into a contract for another 9 months. They have a total monopoly and their lack of respect for customers reflects this
With Vodafone, Meteor and E Mobile all offering the same service I’m rather confused as to how 3 have a monopoly on mobile phone customers. Not happy? Change.
3 is such a brutal network still no 4 G ( not until July , a mere 18 months behind every other provider ) and rubbish reception , I am out of contract next month after 2 yrs of shite. Vodafone here I come.
Some of the over-reactors on here…they mustn’t be old enough to remember queuing to use the phone -at the phonebox. Take some time out and enjoy the peace!
ITS Not only 3 that has mobile technology problems this bank holiday weekend, I have had NO UPC internet/broadband for 4DAYS, can you please help me, thank you, JAR, BRAY
I am assuming 3 are going to compensate all their customers as this is clearly a breach of contract.
I am travelling and this is a bloody nightmare and completely unacceptable not being able to contact people.
However did you survive in the days you needed to use a payphone on arrival to let people know you’d arrived safely!
I broke my phone before and it took a week to fix. Honestly it was a great week. The freedom from that device was incredible. All you need to do is read these comments to see the detrimental effect modern tech is having on people.
It’s only a phone. It’ll be grand tomorrow. Get over it! Do you look to electric ireland for compo when the power is out for a few hours? Didn’t think so.
While not encountering problems with the the network, I am experiencing issues with the journal.. When I click the story about the hadron collider it brings me to this article.. How odd..
I’ve reported this issue to three for the last year, with intermittent signal loss, msg not being delivered or received from others and no internet connection and at every time I’ve reported this I’ve been told it’s a fault with my phone. I’ve sent my phone back to Apple and not an issue with it. I’m tied in with a contract so can’t leave without paying a sum to which I ain’t doin but customer service is terrible with three cause they constantly pass off the failings with the network onto you the customer. This is not only with me but for the majority of three customers I know have experienced the same crap from the customer service centre.
Still no 4 G either ah but sure they say they will have by June … Or July .. At the latest… A full 18 months behind every other network, what’s the point of bring with that level of investment?
I don’t know the mechanics of it but I know it does work. I don’t know if I read it somewhere or if somebody told me but we had to call an ambulance for a family member one evening and my battery was dead. My old (SIM-less) iPhone, that my little boy uses to play games, listen to music, etc., was the closest one to hand and we successfully called 999 on it.
I thought in the case you mentioned above, unfortunately the woman tried to ring her family, not emergency services.
I think some mobile companies are more concerned with profits than anything else? They are suppose to be able to call 999 on them all but it seems this does not always be the case sadly…
