Investigation launched after mother dies shortly after giving birth

Tracey Fitzpatrick died after giving birth to her third child.

AN INVESTIGATION HAS been launched after a mother died shortly after giving birth at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny earlier this week.

Tracey Fitzpatrick (36) died after giving birth to a son on Easter Monday.

A spokesperson for the Ireland East Hospital Group told TheJournal.ie the hospital’s staff and management are “currently focused on supporting the family at this very sad time”.

“A post-mortem was performed yesterday and an internal review process has commenced with a full external investigation to follow.”

The spokesperson added that the group is “working closely” with St Luke’s Hospital and hopes the external investigation will commence in the coming week.

A resident from Templepeter, Co Carlow – where Tracey lived with her husband and children – told the Irish Daily Star locals are “devastated” by her sudden death.

Tracey, who is originally from Co Mayo, will be buried in Knock tomorrow.
