A LOTTERY WINNING septuagenarian has described how he hopes that he’ll “live long enough to spend it.”
John Foley, from Williamstown, Co Galway, won €350,000 in last Wednesday’s Lotto Plus 1 draw. He today collected the winning cheque from the National Lottery headquarters in Dublin.
Speaking about his win, the 77-year-old, said, “I couldn’t believe my eyes! I gave the ticket to the wife and said, check that, and she said, it’s true you’ve won!”.
Originally from Tralee in Co Kerry, Foley intends to share his winnings with his wife Mary and their two children Annette and Timothy.
Speaking about her father’s win, his daughter Annette, said, “when I got the call I thought: ‘oh, he’s really lost the marbles now.’ ”
Tonight’s Lotto draw will be for a guaranteed €2 million.
The National Lottery has raised €4.4 billion to date for good causes. The funding has aided projects in health, arts, culture and the Irish language among others.
