#THE ATLANTIC French special forces have boarded and seized an alleged Russian Shadow Fleet oil tanker 700 kilometres off the Brittany coast and south of Ireland, the country’s President has said.  

#BRITAIN Peter Mandelson said the British government would “never regret” appointing him as Britain’s ambassador to the US, a note published alongside thousands of documents about the posting has revealed.

PARTING SHOT

Today is officially the first day of summer according to Met Éireann – although the weather might suggest otherwise.

But according to the Gaelic calendar, summer starts on Bealtaine, 1 May, and ends 31 July. To complicate things further, the astronomical summer in Ireland doesn’t begin until the summer solstice on 21 June.

However, Met Éireann’s meteorological definition is in line with most European institutes’ definition of summer and with what the World Meteorological Organisation says.
