Woman killed in a car crash a day after giving birth to be laid to rest tomorrow

Nicola Kenny was involved in a car crash a day after giving birth to her daughter Lily-Rose.

A WOMAN WHO died a day after giving birth to her daughter is to be laid to rest tomorrow.

The car Nicola Kenny was travelling in had stopped along the hard shoulder of the M8 to Dublin road when a truck crashed into the back of the vehicle. Her mother and aunt were also in the car at the time.

Nicola, who was from Thurles, is believed to have been travelling to see her newborn daughter Lily-Rose, when the fatal accident occurred on Monday.

Tributes have been paid to the young woman on Facebook and condolences have been pouring in for the family.

A photo on a friend’s page shows Nicola embracing her niece and nephew, with one person commenting underneath the photo to say “this pic sums up Nicola completely.”

“Words can’t even express how heartbreaking everything is,” said another friend.

Nicola’s sister-in-law Ann-Marie thanked the “many very generous people of Thurles for coming out and supporting the family” at this difficult time.

The requiem mass will take place at 11am tomorrow; afterwards the body will be buried in St Patrick’s Cemetery.

There will be a repose at Hugh Ryans’ Funeral Home in Thurles today from 4 to 7.30pm.
