A section of railway bridge collapsed into the Laagen River in Ringebu, Norway PA

Railway bridge collapses in Norway after torrential rain

All traffic across the bridge was halted a week ago out of fear that it would collapse because of the large volume of water.

A RAILWAY BRIDGE has collapsed in south-eastern Norway over a river swollen by torrential rain.

Bane NOR, a government agency in charge of the Norwegian rail infrastructure, said the central section of a steel truss bridge over the Laagen River slid into the water “due to damage to the central bridge foundation”.

All traffic across the bridge was halted a week ago out of fear that it would collapse because of the large volume of water.

“Bane NOR had just begun investigating the extent of the damage to the bridge on Monday morning when the middle part slid into the river,” the agency said in a statement.

The bridge is 172.5 metres long with three spans. It has a direct foundation on the riverbed and was built in 1957.

Eivind Bjurstrom of Bane NOR said the collapse of the bridge “never involved a danger to life and health, which I am very happy about”.

The rain led to the evacuation of thousands of people in south-eastern Norway, where a huge amount of water, littered with broken trees, debris and rubbish, thundered down the usually serene rivers after days of torrential rain.

Storm Hans battered northern Europe, leading to transportation disruption, flooding and power cuts across the Nordic and Baltic region. At least three people were killed.

A hydroelectric river dam in south-eastern Norway collapsed as water forced its way through and a train derailed in neighbouring Sweden when a railway embankment was washed away by floods.

Like that gobshee Niall Boylan when he had a strong common Dublin accent man fighting on air with a common strong Cork accent. It a fight everyone wanted to bee at but gob Niall had to butt in just when comedy gold was about to made.

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. It’s wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway, because bees don’t care what humans think is impossible.

@Chicken George: many moons ago in a kingdom far far away the government in its infinite ” wisdom ” cut some 600 trees to widen a road , swarms of bees invaded the houses and some young dude got killed for being allergic , when called the local bee dude gave this exact response you said there, lucky for us my mom having the room assailed sudden by bees called me da ( he work with insects and their pathogens ) and he came over with that white get up they have and took this one bee with him
And all the others followed out . She was bigger than the others . He also warned us smallies do not kill any and do not go near it . So maybe someone upset their home place or the bank repossess their hive? Bees do not just go into Middleton on a Saturday to get their messages no .
