HAVING BEEN ELECTED to the Dáil primarily for his absolute opposition to water charges, it was no surprise that Socialist/Anti-Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy was particularly vocal in his criticism of Irish Water.
During a debate on a Fianna Fáil motion calling for a full review of how semi-state company is functioning in the wake of various controversies, Murphy ripped up his Irish Water application form.
He encouraged members of the public to do likewise and said the fact one million application forms are still outstanding is “extremely significant”.
“The government and Irish Water are running scared on this issue,” he told the Dáil.
“Those who have these at home, they should take confidence, they should tear them up, they should send them back in protest. We refuse to register, we refuse to pay, we’ll beat these water charges.”
