POLISH POLICE HAVE recovered 12 bodies that went missing when a van carrying coffins to a crematorium was stolen in Germany last week.
“The coffins were found by our officers this morning in the middle of a forest near Krolikow” in central Poland, police spokeswoman Hanna Wachowiak told AFP.
“They are intact,” she added.
Wachowiak said police had found the van on Monday and arrested a third person suspected of involvement in the theft, after snaring two other suspects last Thursday and Friday.
The trio is believed to have taken part in the October 15 theft in Hoppegarten, east of the German capital Berlin and 70 kilometres (45 miles) from the Polish border.
The van containing the coffins had been due to take them to a crematorium in the German city of Meissen, some 200 kilometres (120 miles) to the south.
The suspected thieves are believed to have stolen a total of three vans, including the vehicle carrying the coffins and one belonging to a building firm.
