Poll: Does Obama's visit make you more confident about Ireland?

Does the visit of the world’s most powerful politician nurture a ‘feelgood factor’ – or is it an empty publicity stunt?

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA is to visit Ireland in May, as part of a series of European engagements that will see him visit the UK and France in the latter half of the month.

Obama is likely to visit Moneygall in Co Offaly, the village from which his ancestor Fulmouth Kearney fled in 1850 to emigrate to the United States.

Ireland’s relationship with the United States is particularly close – no other country has a national holiday observed so widely, and Ireland’s Taoiseach has visited the White House for every St Patrick’s Day since 1956.

But does it make a difference as to how you see Ireland? Does the news of Obama’s visit give you a sense of renewed optimism about Ireland?

Poll Results:

Yes - it creates a feelgood factor (767)
No - it's an empty stunt (205)
I don't know yet (125)
