Poll: Is 'chivalrous' behaviour actually just sexism?

A study in Germany and the US has found that polite behaviour is actually veiled sexism. Do you agree?

AN ACADEMIC STUDY carried out in the United States and Germany has claimed that behaviour traditionally considered ‘chivalrous’ is actually a veiled form of sexism.

The study said that holding a door open for a woman, carrying her shopping bags, or offering to take over driving duties on a long journey is actually an indication that a man doesn’t think a woman can do the tasks herself.

What do you think – is the study missing the point that men are just trying to be polite by helping out in tasks like this? Or does the study underine a more fundamental sexism that many people have simply grown to accept?

Is chivalrous behaviour actually a form of sexism?
