Poll: Is it time for Mary Harney to go?

As hospital overcrowding sets a new record, should the Health Minister announce she’ll stand down at the next election?

Updated: 9.55am

THE COUNTRY IS facing its worst health crisis in years: at one point this week, 569 people were on trolleys in Irish hospitals awaiting a bed, the VHI has announced a raft of massive price increases, and swine flu rates have doubled in a week – yet the Minister responsible is nowhere to be seen.

Given the extent of the crisis in the health service, is it time Mary Harney joined Bertie Ahern, and her Cabinet colleagues Dermot Ahern, Noel Dempsey, Tony Killeen and Michael Finneran and announced that she won’t be standing in the next election? Or should should stay on and face the electorate again?

What do you think: is it time for Mary Harney to announce her resignation?

Poll Results:

Yes: she has to go. (1619)
No: she should stand again. (170)
