IT’S CHRISTMAS EVE, so Alone, the charity for older people, is urging the public to check in with their elderly neighbours over the Christmas period.
According to Alone, many older people find the holidays a lonely and isolating time, and about 10 per cent of the country’s 120,000 older people could be classed as vulnerable.
But some people may not know their neighbours, or if they would welcome visitors over the Christmas period.
Seán Moynihan, Alone’s chief executive, said that “a simple visit to an older person can make a huge difference to their wellbeing, as they may be desperately in need of some company.”
