FROM TODAY, CERTAIN members of an Garda Siochána will be allowed to be permanently armed.

More than 120 uniformed gardaí are to be fully armed as part of a crackdown on gangland crime.

The force was founded almost 100 years ago, and this marks the first time that uniformed members are allowed carry guns full-time.

It will only be gardaí in specialist regional units who will be allowed to carry arms.

Today, we ask: Should all uniformed gardaí be armed?

Poll Results:

Yes, but only in specific areas and cases (3450)
No (2935)
Yes (1131)
