Powdered alcohol is legal in the US...again

It can be snorted or added to water.

US REGULATORS HAVE once again approved powdered alcohol for sale and distribution.

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) gave the product, called Palcohol, the green light briefly last year before the bureau backtracked and said the label approvals had been given in error.

TTB spokesman Tom Hogue told The Associated Press that issues around the sale of the product were resolved and that four varieties of Palcohol were approved.

But Hogue noted that states can also regulate alcohol sales in their borders.

Arizona company Lipsmark originally stated that it was on track for release in the US in the fall but had then reported that it learned of a “discrepancy” from the TTB.

With those issues cleared up, Lipsmark says that it hopes to begin manufacturing and selling Palcohol in the summer.

The powder is mixed with around 80ml of water to create either vodka or one of three cocktails.

It can be snorted and could even be sprinkled on food, but the company says that it would take a large amount to get you drunk.

The company also said the product will only be sold to people of legal drinking age and distributed in liquor stores and bars.

Powdered alcohol has already been approved in Japan and some European countries.

Palcohol creator Mark Phillip said he came up with the idea for Palcohol because he wanted a way to enjoy alcoholic drinks after hiking or other activities without having to lug around heavy bottles.
