Price comparison: What can I buy in Co Cavan for under €395k?

GETTING TO GRIPS with a changing property market is tricky, but we’re here to make things a little easier. Each week, we pick a number of homes around a similar budget, to give you an idea of what your money will get you in a certain area.

This week, we’re looking at properties in Co Cavan priced below €395,000 – a semi-detached home and three detached homes that all have four bedrooms.

Four-bed, detached, Bailieborough – €269,000

This home called Iona sits just outside the town of Bailieborough on an elevated site and on a peaceful cul-de-sac. Ready to walk into, the ground floor comprises an entrance hall, a sitting room and a bedroom that has an en suite bathroom. The kitchen sits at the back where there’s also a utility room and a guest toilet. The remaining three bedrooms are upstairs along with the family bathroom. 

There’s a yard to the back and loads of space for parking to the front. The village is a walk away and there’s also a Tesco about 300 metres from the home. For hybrid workers, Dublin is a 1.5 hour drive away.

Four-bed, detached, Shercock – €249,000

1 Annaghieran Lodge is a 138m² home in an estate of six houses. Inside comprises a hall that leads to the sitting room and two bedrooms, one of which is now a home office. To the back is the kitchen and dining room along with the sun room with sliding doors to the garden. A utility room and guest bathroom completes this floor. Two big bedrooms and the family bathroom are located upstairs. There are solar panels on the roof to heat the home’s water. 

For fans of the water, there are opportunities to fish, kayak and paddleboard close by.  The house sits 14 km from Kingscourt and 4.5 km from Shercock.

Four-bed, detached, Virginia – €395,000

Cargagh House is a home spread over three floors that has great countryside views and is a few miles from the town of Virginia. The ground floor is home to a spacious living room, kitchen and dining area, a study and a games room along. There is also a utility room and a downstairs toilet. A unique selling point to this house is that there is planning permission for a swimming pool.

All four bedrooms are upstairs and three of them have en suite bathrooms, which pretty much leaves the family bathroom for the fourth. There is plenty more space on this floor, however, including an open study area that could be used as another bedroom. There are three more rooms that are used as a games room and for storage.

Four-bed, semi-detached, Mullagh – €235,000
