Updated 9.25 am

STUDENTS AND STAFF at the University of Limerick are coming to terms with the death of a young student.

The woman, who has been named locally as Rachael Hogan, collapsed suddenly at around 12.30 pm yesterday during a lecture at the Kemmy Business School.

She was a final year business and marketing student, just weeks away from her last exams.

It is understood that her parents , who live nearby, arrvied at the scene before their daughter was taken to University Hospital Limerick where she was pronounced dead.

UL Students’ Union president Emma Porter said the incident was “an absolute tragedy”.

Our thoughts are with Rachael’s family and friends during this terrible time. We will post information regarding funeral arrangements as soon as they are made available.

“[The SU] would also like to remind all our students of the support services available to them on campus to help them in this stressful time. The Chaplaincy, Counselling Service and our Welfare Office are available to all students, please do not hesitate to contact any of them,” Porter added.

A book of condolence will be available in the SU shortly.
