Man arrested after armed robbery on shop in south Dublin

A man entered the store carrying a gun yesterday afternoon.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man after the armed robbery of a shop in south Dublin yesterday.

The robbery happened at a convenience store on Thorncastle Street, Ringsend at about 5.40pm.

Gardaí say a man entered the shop carrying what appeared to be a gun and threatened staff before taking a quantity of cash and fleeing on foot.

A garda patrol that was in the area arrested a man in his 50s a short time later not far from where the robbery took place.

When the man was being detained a firearm and a quantity of cash were seized. Gardaí say the firearm has been sent to garda forensic teams for a ballistic examination.

The man is currently being held at Irishtown Garda Station where he can be held for a maximum of 72 hours.

Nobody was injured in the robbery of the store.
