THE BODY OF an Irishman who was shot dead in Nigeria on Thursday will be repatriated to Ireland next week.
Robert Gray, 45 and from Westport in Co Mayo, was shot dead while his driver was injured in an ambush in the southeast of the country near the border with Cameroon on Thursday.
The father-of-two had been working as an engineer on road construction projects with PW Group, a multinational company with a base in Kilcoole, Wicklow.
The company undertakes various construction projects across two continents including roads and airports as well as being involved in opencast mining and earthmoving, according to its website.
The company’s Irish base could not be reached for comment this afternoon.
It is understood that no-one else was injured in the incident which occurred on Thursday afternoon.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said that it is providing consular assistance to the family.
