Fabric fix: 6 rugs that'll add colour and warmth to your wooden floors

EVEN IF YOU’RE not a fan of the Big Lebowski, you can’t deny that The Dude was on to something when he said his beloved rug “really tied the room together.”
Movie quotes aside, the right rug can transform an area like the living room, hallway or bedroom.
Rugs are great for zoning open plan spaces, and in a wooden floored room they’ll help with insulation and keep your feet toasty too. The challenge is finding one that’s the best fit for your space, adding to the atmosphere in the room without taking over the floor entirely (unless you want it to).
Here are six styles and sizes to consider…
1. Big cover up: If you fear the original floor in your home might have seen its day, don’t give up hope just yet. Take some renovation advice from Darran @oldvictoriannew who went dark with his floorboards and added a large rug. Doing this still lets the boards peep through but covers up any knots and bumps you can’t fix.

2. Play matchmaker: Use a feature wall or another interesting element in the room as a jumping off point for your rug, picking matching or complementary colours. This approach takes some attention to detail, but the result is fun, creative and welcoming.

4. Grey expectations: The beautiful thing about grey is that it works well with almost any colour you team it with. So, if you need to add warmth to a room, a pop of sunshiney yellow, set against a grey palette, will turn up the temp in a flash. We love how @rebekahcaudwell‘s living room (as featured in @livingetcuk) mixes neutral and bright tones.

5. Bright direction: Feeling extra brave? Then go for multicoloured and let your rug really stand out. We love how @shaunaglenn plays with scale and lets this rug take centre stage without hiding the gorgeous floor underneath.
