Councillor dies of suspected heart attack while driving
His colleagues have expressed their shock at his passing.
A PEOPLE BEFORE Profit councillor has died of a suspected heart attack in Sligo.
Seamus O’Boyle reportedly had a heart attack while driving in the Temple Street area of Sligo town.
Gardaí confirmed that a 57-year-old man was alive when emergency services arrived at the scene.
He was taken to Sligo Regional Hospital where he died a short time later.
The Garda Press Office said the exact cause of his death won’t be known until a post mortem is carried out tomorrow morning.
Members of Sligo County Council have expressed their shock at O’Boyle’s death.
He was elected in 2014 and was a vocal anti-water charges campaigner.
The People Before Profit Alliance released a statement saying the group is deeply saddened by his death, adding: “We wish to send our condolences to the O’Boyle family at this difficult time.”
