The Islamic State group has now also claimed responsibility for the attack.

THE FIRST IMAGE of female San Bernardino shooter Tashfeen Malik has emerged.

Malik carried out the attack along with her husband Syed Farook at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California.

The picture has been issued by the FBI and follows confirmation by the security service that the attack is being treated as an act of terror.

Speaking yesterday, FBI Director James Comey said that there were indications that the couple may have been radicalised, but that there is not evidence they were part of a wider terror network.

According to the BBC, Malik was a “caring, soft-spoken” housewife.

The FBI told a news conference yesterday that authorities were trying to recover data from two mobile phones found crushed near to where the shooting happened.

In total 14 people were killed in the attack, with the husband and wife pairing dying in a shootout with police.

Also today, the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the shooting.

In a radio broadcast, it has said that its followers carried out the attack – although there is no evidence that the militant group had any awareness of the incident before it happened.
