Poll: Should Ireland have league tables for doctors?

Let us know…

THE INTRODUCTION OF league tables to track mortality rates and waiting lists among doctors was an idea floated this week by Health Minister James Reilly.

Speaking at the MacGill Summer School, Reilly said that the tables would lead to more transparency and accountability. However, UCD Economics lecturer Kevin Denny says  that the plan could deter doctors from taking on challenging cases. Denny also says that publishing statistics for doctors and not for schools shows an ‘inconsistency of government policy’.

So, what do you think? Would you feel safer if you knew a doctors stats? Or are there too many variables for a statistical analysis of a doctor’s work?
