A SOUTH AFRICAN judge has thrown out the case against British businessman Shrien Dewani, who was accused of murdering his wife Anni on their honeymoon in 2010, AFP reports.

Judge Jeannette Traverso said that prosecutors arguments had “fallen far below” the level needed to secure conviction, paving the way for Dewani to walk free.

The prosecution had argued that Dewani hired hitmen to kill Anni on their honeymoon in Cape Town, because he was a gay man desperate to escape an arranged marriage.

His defence lawyer Francois van Zyl, however, told the court Dewani was bisexual, but was “instantly physically attracted” to his Swedish-born wife Anni.

Dewani claimed she was killed in a botched carjacking,

Anni Dewani was shot dead on 13 November, 2010, aged 28.
