4 of a kind: Gorgeous split-level homes across the country

From Cork to Cavan, check out this collection.

OPEN PLAN MAY be the most popular of layouts in the last decade, but there is a possibility that the pandemic changed that. Many months of sharing spaces with our families really put open plans to the test.

So, if you want your next home to function a little differently, check out these split level homes. Some may even look smaller from the outside, but step inside and you’re faced with more space for the privacy and separation you might be craving – particularly if working from home is set to continue for you.

Inniscarra, Co Cork – €950,000

A split-level home designed by architect Margaret Walsh, it originally dates to 1994 but saw a generous extension in 2008, which upped the floor space considerably. What stands here now is a tastefully decorated spacious home that’s surrounded by enviable gardens – and it’s just a 20 minute drive from Cork city.

On the ground floor, the hall connects to the inner hall, a studio and two large open plan areas that combine the kitchen and a dining area and then a living space and another place to eat in. While two sets of French doors lead to patios, a third set opens out onto the wraparound balcony. The house has five bathrooms as well as bedrooms.
