Strong earthquake shakes Turkey, Greece

The quake hit near tourist hotspots on the Greek island of Rhodes and southwest Turkey.

AN 6.0 MAGNITUDE earthquake shook parts of Turkey and Greece earlier today.

According to data from the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Institute, the violent quake hit at 3.44 pm local time. Aftershocks of 4.9 and 4.7 magnitudes were felt shortly afterwards.

No serious damage or deaths have been reported but about six people are said to be in hospital with injuries. Some were hurt after jumping out of buildings in a panic, Turkish officials revealed.

Areas of Turkey shaken by the quake included the popular Aegean resort town of Oludeniz, the Aegean port of Izmir, and the Mediterranean city of Antalya.
