Sunny weather in St. Stephen's Green, Dublin. Leah Farrell

Temperatures are set to hit as high as 18 degrees this week (but not today, obviously)

We’ll be having the usual blustery St Patrick’s Day weather – but it won’t last.

IN KEEPING WITH tradition, we’ll be enduring the usual smorgasbord of drizzle, cloud and blustery showers today.

But the weather’s set to take a turn for the better later in the week – with highs of up to 18 forecast for Thursday.

As far as this morning is concerned, many areas are set to stay largely dry with just the odd patchy shower.

A band of more persistent rain will slowly edge in from the west later this morning, according to Met Éireann’s latest forecast, becoming lighter as it reaches the east coast this evening.

There’ll be sunny spells and isolated showers to follow, and the temperatures will be relatively mild compared to recent days with highs of 9 to 14 degrees forecast.

It will be pretty gusty at times this afternoon.

Getting warmer

There’ll be a little rain around tomorrow, with temperatures climbing to 16 in some areas.

But the outlook becomes more settled from Wednesday night, with dry, calm weather and plenty of sunny spells expected in the following days.

“A pleasant day with widespread spring sunshine,” is the forecast for Thursday, with predicted highs of 12 to 18.

After a dull start, there’ll be sunny spells throughout Friday too with similar conditions in the offing for Saturday. There’ll be some cloud around on Sunday but the rain is forecast to hold off during daylight hours.
