1. #FIRE BRIGADE: On foot of TheJournal.ie‘s revelations last week of serious cuts being imposed on the Dublin fire brigade, it looks increasingly likely that members may vote for some sort of industrial action this autumn.
2. #PRISONS: There was a nearly 40 per cent increase in people sent to prison last year for not paying fines. The figure emerged in the 2010 Irish Prison Service report, published this afternoon, which shows that Irish prisons were overcrowded by an average of 87 prisoners per day.
3. #AUSTRIA: Fears of another Josef Fritzl-type case have emerged in Austria today where authorities confirmed they are questioning an 80-year-old man on suspicion of locking his two daughters in a room for 41 years and sexually abusing them.
4. #LIBYA: It has emerged that the Libyan rebels narrowly missed the chance to capture Muammar Gaddafi at a private home in Tripoli (by the way, here’s how HE spells his name). Fighting is still raging in pro-Gaddafi strongholds today in Libya.
